High Calorie Emergency Food Bars For Survival

Believe it or not when I got into prepping I had a really difficult time finding any kind of survival food bar that met up to my expectations. The search is still difficult.

Energy bars that met my expectations are no longer on the market today. And so the below recommendations are going to have some pros and cons.

I think energy bars are important for survival scenarios for the following advantages:

  • Little space used making them great for bug-out bags
  • Quick consumption for when you’re on the move

What do I look for when recommending a survival bar?

  • Densely packed calories
  • Nutritional Contents
  • Shelf storage
  • Great Taste

It is difficult to find a bar on the market that meets all four criteria above. Below are our recommendations.

  1. Datrex 3600 Calorie Energy Bar

The Datrex energy bar has

  • 5 year shelf life
  • A vacuum sealed block with 18 small individually wrapped 200 calorie bars for easy distribution
  • U.S. Coast Guard approved
  • Holds up to heat and cold for ideal storage
  • Nut free
  • No Preservatives or GMOs all natural ingredients

The taste of this bar is okay. It is dry, flakey, and smells good. It kind of tastes like a dry almond cookie.

Pros:

  • Long shelf life
  • Higher Calorie Density than any other bar
  • Decent taste
  • No preservatives or GMOs

Cons:

  • Not high in nutrient content. It is made of wheat flour, barley flour, vegetable palm oil, cane sugar, and a few vitamins such as niacin, riboflavin, folic acid, thiamine, iron thrown in.

If this bar is not available another bar of very similar make and identical features are mainstay food bars or millennium bars

  1. PowerBar Protein Plus

PowerBar Protein Plus has

  • 200 calories for each 2.2 oz bar
  • 20 grams of protein
  • 4 grams of fiber

Taste is great. Soft, chewy, sticky.

  • High Calorie Density
  • Small 2.2 oz bars
  • Great Taste
  • High amount of protein
  • Somewhat nutritious

Cons:

  • Short shelf life
  1. Kate’s Real Food Tram Bars

Kate’s Real Food Energy Bar has

  • 110 calories per tiny 1.1 oz bar
  • All organic ingredients such as oats, honey, brown rice crisps, peanut butter, milk chocolate, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds raisins, and other dried fruits

Taste is amazing, the perfect sweetness and texture. It has incredible ratings for its taste.

Pros:

  • High Calorie Density
